Syria: continuing ratlines of terrorists and outside meddling

The history of the United States supporting right-wing death squads in Central America and Latin America is documented for all to see. Similarly, the utter devastation reeked on Vietnam by France and then America, is a firm reminder of how millions of people can be killed without any war crimes awaiting the so-called elite club. Not content with past history, new wars have been unleashed which have caused more chaos and mayhem because the failed state syndrome of Afghanistan, Kosovo, Iraq, and Libya, means little to wealthy political elites who don’t blink an eye at the deaths of untold numbers.

Nations with complex histories and which have unique factors are all ignored and just like the past colonialists of all empires, the elites who usually all study at the same educational institutions continue with their arrogance. In the 1980s and early 1990s radical Sunni Islamists in Afghanistan who were responsible for killing women, the Shia minority, killing apostates from Islam, countless terrorist attacks, and who supported stoning women to death for adultery – were supported by America, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and other nations. Therefore, what does justice and freedom mean to the political leaders of these nations?

Of course, blowback happened on September 11 when former Sunni Islamic jihadists who did the bidding of the above in Afghanistan and Bosnia, then turned on their allies. This applies to both September 11 and the insurgency against the central forces of Pakistan, Therefore, the government of Turkey is playing a dangerous game just like Pakistan did in the past. The upshot of all this intervention was more chaos because the past training of Sunni Islamic terrorists by America, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan operatives, enabled international terrorist networks to spread their hatred to India and other nations.

It is abundantly clear that Al Qaeda is a very broad term but in truth many elements work alongside America and the United Kingdom easily. This can be seen by the relationship between these two forces in Afghanistan in the 1980s and to the middle of the 1990s, the Bosnian connection of 8,000 Sunni Islamists (several members of September 11 had Bosnian Muslim passports), recent events in Libya, and the motives of Al Qaeda, other Sunni Islamic terrorist networks, and Western powers is the same against the people of Syria.

However, at the same time the relationship is complex because in modern day Pakistan and Yemen, the “two convenient allies” clash. The same happened in Iraq because the power balance in Iraq went from Sunni to Shia. However, in time local Sunni leaders would also turn against Al Qaeda because just like the Taliban, their concern was internal and not based on international issues. The Taliban isn’t an international terrorist network but based on ethnic lines which cut into parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan respectively. Indeed, September 11 and the Saudi Arabian ratlines are real just like the Bosnian Muslim connection with regards to training and passports obtained.

The terrorist maze is complex because so many different groups and ambitions within each organization. However, just like in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen, they are hard to dislodge and defeat once a vacuum is opened. Despite this, and all the deadly carnage done against the citizens of Iraq and in other parts of the world, the leaders of America, the United Kingdom, France, and others, are joining forces with the most draconian nation in the world. This applies to Saudi Arabia and at the same time terrorist ratlines are penetrating Syria because of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Al Qaeda, and other Sunni Islamic terrorist networks, who are working in tandem with Washington, Paris, and London.

Therefore, despite the clear understanding that the “terrorist vacuum” is difficult to crush once “opened” the political leaders in Washington, Paris, and London, are still supporting the forces of hatred. After all, what will the future be for secularists, Alawites, Sunni Muslim leaders who preach unity, Christians, liberals, and women, if the forces of radical Sunni Islam get their way?

Yes, it will mean a sectarian bloodbath and just like the Taliban destroyed all vestiges of Buddhism and Hinduism in Afghanistan and turned the clock back to “year zero” – the same awaits the rich civilization of Syria and the Levant. The Levant is an area where different sects within Islam and Christianity survived unlike the totalitarianism of Sunni Islam in Saudi Arabia, which desires to crush all forms of co-existence and to persecute other sects within Islam.

The situation in the Levant for women, the Druze, Christians, and various sects within Islam, is extremely rich. However, this mosaic is being endangered by outside meddling. Therefore, the power of Syria is being threatened by nations which seek to crush the last bastion of secularism in the Arabic speaking world. Also, despite knowing what Islamists did to Afghanistan and Iraq, the elites care little and instead support another failed state.

Therefore, if the people of Syria desire to preserve the unity of their nation it is instrumental that all forms of terrorism, outside meddling, and the relentless stream of mercenaries, are defeated. If this doesn’t happen, then Syria will become either a compliant nation which serves the interest of America, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia – or this country will become another failed state where sectarianism fills the vacuum and women will be shackled.
